Enter the Dragon

Here's Red Dragon thundering along on a summer's day off Auckland, New Zealand. She's just been launched by Alloy Yachts and at 170ft (52m) she's the fourth yacht over 50m built by the Auckland yard. Commissioned by Guy and Myriam Ullens, the 354 ton yacht is seen here trialling her Doyle Stratis upwind sail wardrobe. There's 27,000 sq ft of Stratis Membrane Cloth onboard Red Dragon handled by 11 captive winches and six vertical drums all designed and built by Alloy. Her carbon mast is a towering 205ft (62.5m)

Designed by Dubois Naval Architects Red Dragon is fitted with a 1400hp Caterpillar main engine which will give her a range at 10 knots of nearly 6000nm. Watch out for a full blown feature in the June edition of Supersail World distributed with Yachting World.
