Sea lions sink boat
Basking sea lions are being held responsible for sinking a 24ft boat last week. Two of the creatures climbed on to the boat in Newport Beach harbour in California, but their weight proved too much for the wooden craft.

By the time the boat's owner arrived all that could be seen of the craft was its mast sticking out of the water. Increasing numbers of sea lions have been coming into the harbour in recent years, but attempts to protect boats by fitting sea lion proof netting have proved ineffective.
